The Dallas Cowboys came into the offseason off one of the disappointing finishes in recent franchise history. Despite being considered a Super Bowl contender for most of the year, Dallas once again were one and done, losing a home playoff game in the wild card round.
For the first time in many years, the Cowboys offensive line struggled. Ezekiel Elliott had arguably the worst season of his career since becoming a star. After the season, former Pro Bowl offensive lineman La'el Collins left for Miami. The Cowboys were clearly in need of some help on the offensive line.
Dallas wisely used their first-round pick at the 2022 NFL Draft on offensive tackle Tyler Smith. Despite committing a ton of penalties in college, Smith is incredibly talented and looks to have a bright future in the NFL. But apparently Cowboys owner Jerry Jones sees even more potential than that, noted by the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

On Saturday, Jones spoke at an event promoting a soccer match at AT&T Stadium in Dallas, compared him to arguably one of the best offensive lineman in NFL history, Larry Allen.
The Cowboys owner did not directly compare Allen and Smith as players, saying ”

We are pleased.” He referenced how strong Smith is, which was something noted by draft scouts. The Tulsa product is 6'5”, 324 pounds and does a great job with his hands at the point of contact. That was something Larry Allen was particularly good at.
The Cowboys would likely be ecstatic if he can be anything close to what Allen was. Larry Allen helped anchor the Cowboys' offensive lineman to three Super Bowl wins in the 1990's.
