Dallas Cowboys coach Jason Garrett earned himself an unsportsmanlike conduct flag after he threw a challenge flag in front of side judge Scott Edwards late in the third quarter of Dallas' loss to the Green Bay Packers.
Said Garrett on the matter, via Pro Football Talk:
“Obviously, I didn’t handle that situation as well as I should have. I knew we were going to get the play because I saw it. Unfortunately, had to use the flag [to challenge] there. He made that decision to throw a flag on me.”
Garrett mentioned that he earned the flag due to the aggressive manner in which he threw the red flag. However, a pool report from referee Ron Torbert indicated that he got it due to “abusive language,” which piqued Jerry Jones' interest.
“Oh, I hope the little darlin’ didn’t hear something he hadn’t heard before,” Jones said, via PFT. “We should all have stopped the wheel over there if he got [upset] over abusive language.”
The Cowboys appear upset over the officiating crew for the way they called the game. Dallas warranted a total of 11 penalties for 124 yards in the game. Though Garrett and Jones didn't outright express their frustration, they likely will do so behind closed doors soon.
“It’s not my place to share my opinion about that,” said Garrett on the officiating, per PFT.
In all, the Cowboys have plenty to feel frustrated about, after dropping their last two games following a 3-0 start to the season. They can rebound next week when they face the hapless New York Jets.
