The Dallas Cowboys have been one of the league's most storied franchise behind their long decorated history of success over the years. This has seen has many NFL legends pass through the organization that has built and maintained a strong level of prestige with the Cowboys.

According to Clarence E. Hill Jr. of the Star-Telegram, the Cowboys may be finally set to honor former head coach Jimmy Johnson with an induction to the franchise's Ring of Honor.

And then there are two members of the 1990s title teams that will get heavy consideration in tight end Jay Novacek and coach Jimmy Johnson.

It's a long overdue honor for Johnson, who was not only the coach but the architect of the Cowboys' dynasty in the early 1990s that won two Super Bowls in three years. His fingerprints were also all over that third Super Bowl the following year. In truth, he had a tremendous impact in helping form of one of the greatest teams that the league has seen that featured a plethora of Hall of Fame talent.

The fact that it has taken this long is quite a head-scratcher given how much success he had with the Cowboys helping them win two out of their five Super Bowls during his stint with the organization. Although things flamed out in a disappointing fashion with both Johnson and team owner Jerry Jones butting heads, it was a time frame that saw Dallas reach the mountaintops of success.

What has likely helped Johnson finally get into that select group in the Ring of Honor is that he and Jones have somewhat mended the fences over the years. Regardless of the conflict that came between the two, there is a strong level of respect between the two for what was accomplished together during the 1990s. It was only a matter of time before Johnson would get this honor.
