Mike McCarthy is forming his staff in the panhandle. The newly hired Dallas Cowboys head coach is getting rid of the old and replacing it with coaches he's more familiar with.

According to Todd Archer of ESPN, Marc Colombo will not return to the Cowboys as an offensive line coach. Joe Philbin is expected to reunite with McCarthy in the same role.

Philbin was McCarthy's offensive line coach in 2006 with the Green Bay Packers. He spent one year in that role before earning the offensive coordinator job — a job he held from 2007 to 2011. The Miami Dolphins found promise in Philbin, who named him their head coach in 2012.

Philbin returned to the assistant coaching ranks in 2016, after less than four seasons in Miami, where he went 26-30. He found himself on the Indianapolis Colts' staff before re-joining McCarthy in 2018 as his offensive coordinator. Philbin acted as the interim head coach after the Packers fired McCarthy midway through the 2018 campaign.

Like McCarthy, Philbin spent the 2019 season out of football. Now the 58-year-old will return to the professional level under a coach he is very familiar with. It helps that he will coach one of the best offensive lines in football with the Cowboys.

As for Colombo, he took over as the Cowboys' offensive line coach midway through the 2018 season. He signed a contract that goes through the 2021 season. Now, he will be looking for a new job.

Expect the Cowboys to continue to rebuild their coaching staff as they move on from the Jason Garrett-era to the McCarthy one.
