Dallas Cowboys right tackle La'el Collins was suspended for five games following their Week 1 showdown against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The reason, it was announced, was for violation of the NFL's substance abuse policy, as detailed then by NFL insider Ian Rapoport. He had reportedly missed several drug tests which led to the suspension.
My understanding is La’El Collins was suspended for missing drug tests. Essentially, failure to appear. https://t.co/L4dL8GgRp3

However, the latest news is that the Cowboys lineman didn't simply miss his designated tests, he also attempted to bribe the drug test collector to get himself off the hook as well.

Players cannot be suspended for positive marijuana tests under the NFL's new collective bargaining agreement, but Collins' issue was multiple missed tests and also trying to bribe the test collector, according to sources.
The Cowboys star's five-game suspension was initially reduced to two games after the NFL Players Association stepped in. However, La'el Collins' camp appealed the result, leading to a third-party arbitration that eventually reinstated the five-game suspension originally imposed by the league. The details of the alleged bribery likely helped sway that result.
Collins believed he had legitimate reasons for missing seven drug tests, one of which was scheduled for the day that Cowboys strength and conditioning coach Markus Paul died last November. Collins missed another drug test the day of his uncle's funeral.
This is certainly a tough blow for the Dallas Cowboys. La'el Collins has been a mainstay in their starting lineup for the past three seasons. Collins has already served the first game of his suspension in the Cowboys' Week 2 matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers and is expected back for their November 1 matchup against the Minnesota Vikings.
