Dallas Cowboys tackle La'el Collins was suspended for five games on Friday for allegedly violating the NFL's substance-abuse policy. His agent, Peter Schaffer, is infuriated over the situation.

Just check out Schaffer blasting the league, via Pro Football Talk:

“We are extremely disappointed in how the NFL has handled this entire matter from trampling on Mr. Collins rights to prematurely releasing the information knowing a timely appeal was filed to intentionally misleading the court at the hearing,” Schaffer said in a statement. “The extent and effort the NFL went to to accomplish its ends is appalling.”

News of La'el Collins' suspension came just a day after the Cowboys season-opener against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported via sources that the Dallas tackle's punishment wasn't even due to a failed drug test. The five-game suspension was issued for failing to show up to a drug test. In the league's rules from last season, however, that's not supposed to result in a suspension, making it quite obvious why Collins' agent is upset about the situation.

It's not like he was using any drugs in the first place, he simply just missed a test. It doesn't really seem fair that he could be suspended just for that. La'el Collins played for the Cowboys in their thrilling loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Thursday night. Barring an appeal or some sort of change, the 28-year-old will miss the next five games and should be available to return during Week 7 when the Cowboys travel to Minnesota and take on the Vikings on a Halloween edition of Sunday Night Football.
