Upon being selected by the Dallas Cowboys in the 2020 NFL Draft, it was revealed that CeeDee Lamb will wear the historic No. 88 jersey after having it appointed to him by Jerry Jones. Following the decision, Michael Irvin praised Lamb and shared that he was a fan of his.

“In order to get this number you must be what we call a ‘true bred‘ – that means born, bleed and bred right here with the Dallas Cowboys,” Dallas' legendary Michael Irvin said on a call-in to ESPN. “Drew Pearson was that. Michael Irvin was that. Dez Bryant was that and now CeeDee Lamb is that . And I love this kid.”

Dating back to the 1970s, the No. 88 jersey became a memorable one after Drew Pearson put together a legendary career with the Cowboys. Then, Irvin, a Hall of Famer receiver himself, wore the No. 88 jersey in the 1990s as he was catching passes from Troy Aikman.

In addition, Dez Bryant would continue the legacy of No. 88 in the 2010s. Despite all of the talented receivers to wear the number, Lamb will get a chance to follow their footsteps moving forward.

While Irvin could've been upset at Lamb wearing the jersey, he actually expressed his excitement for the decision. As a matter of fact, Irvin believes Lamb is the piece that Dallas has been missing in recent seasons.

Also, Lamb went out of his way to contact Irvin first, not the other way around. With that in mind, Lamb is hoping that he can make the previous wide receivers of the Cowboys that wore No. 88 proud.
