To say the Dallas Cowboys endured a tumultuous 2017 NFL season would be a massive understatement. Perhaps the most notable disappointment was the lack of chemistry between quarterback Dak Prescott and wide receiver Dez Bryant.

As a result, there is speculation regarding Bryant's future in Dallas as a true No. 1 receiving option. Needless to say, Cowboys legend Michael Irvin was not having any talk about the team parting ways with the young star wideout during an appearance on the Dan Patrick Show:

“All the people in football, we get a hold of something, sometimes, and we’re like a dog with a bone. So right now Dez Bryant is the bone… Listen, let that bone go. I went through this a couple years ago, with Cowboys fans when they were winning. ‘we can let Demarco Murray go’… stop. You don’t find No. 1 receivers hanging off trees like leaves. So what you gonna do, let Dez go?

“Who you got to replace him? You think if they could find No. 1 receivers, every team would have them… You don’t find them that easily and the Cowboys would be stupid, stupid to let this boy go right now.”

It comes as no surprise to see Irvin adamantly come to Bryant's defense. Much like the Cowboys star receiver, the Hall of Famer was once one of the most boisterous and charismatic players in the league.

It was a down year for Bryant, to say the least. The three-time Pro Bowler recorded just 69 catches on 133 targets for 838 yards and six touchdowns. Needless to say, the connection between he and Prescott was seriously lacking throughout the season. However, it is not as if there are many clear-cut No. 1 receiving options of Bryant's caliber set to hit the market anytime soon.
