Mike McCarthy was hired as head coach of the Dallas Cowboys on Monday, but a complete overhaul of the rest of the coaching staff may not be necessary.

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, McCarthy is “more than open” to keeping Kellen Moore installed as the team's offensive coordinator.

Moore became a member of the Cowboys' coaching staff in 2018, taking over as quarterbacks coach. After just one season, he was named offensive coordinator.

The 31-year-old was a smashing success in his first year at the helm, helping Dallas finish with the top-ranked offense in the NFL in terms of yards per game. It also finished sixth in scoring.

Based on the amount of success Moore had in his debut season, it would not be the least bit surprising if McCarthy decides to keep him around, and it would probably be advisable for McCarthy to do so.

McCarthy spent the 2019 campaign out of the NFL after being fired from his post as Green Bay Packers head coach ahead of Week 13 of the 2018 season.

The 56-year-old was originally hired as the Packers' head coach back in 2006 and made the playoffs in nine of his first 11 seasons in charge, including six NFC North division titles and a Super Bowl championship.

However, McCarthy went just 11-16-1 between 2017 and 2018, and his tenuous relationship with Aaron Rodgers—not to mention his outdated style—began to wear thin on Green Bay.

Now, McCarthy will get an opportunity to prove that he can, in fact, still successfully coach in a league that is now quite a bit different than when he entered the head-coaching ranks 14 years ago.
