Micah Parsons had himself a fantastic, historic rookie season with the Dallas Cowboys. Now, head coach Mike McCarthy is daring him to be even better.
The Cowboys' defense was very strong last year thanks to Parsons, who proved to be a one-man wrecking crew off the edge, and stellar contributions from players like fellow All-Pro Trevon Diggs and Randy Gregory. According to Todd Archer of ESPN, McCarthy wants Parsons to become a truly elite player rather than just a great one.
“And that’s what we’re all hoping that these guys develop into because elite players make players better around them,” McCarthy said. “Obviously Micah had a lot of great moments last year, but our desire — and it needs to be his desire — is for him to be an elite player, not just a great player. …
It's tough to imagine Parsons taking a massive leap forward in his game after what we saw last year. The Cowboys' 11th overall pick in the 2021 draft ranked second in Defensive Player of the Year voting with 84 total tackles, 30 quarterback hits, 20 tackles for loss, 13.0 sacks, three forced fumbles and three passes defended. Dallas played him in a variety of positions and he excelled everywhere. He may already be the most versatile defender among those who primarily play in the box.
Parsons will need a lot of help to bring Dallas back to the playoffs. After several key players left this offseason, the talent on the roster is not as eye-popping. Improving on his already bonkers rookie season would make it clear that he is an NFL legend in the making.
