Stephen A. Smith expects the Dallas Cowboys to come up short in the 2019 NFL season.
Smith said he likes the Cowboys' current upgrades (including the signing of wide receiver Randall Cobb and the re-signing of defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence) in the April 8 episode of ESPN's First Take (via 247Sports.com's John Newby). However, Smith insists the Cowboys will still fail.
I have to admit, I'm very, very impressed with what I've seen Jerry Jones and Stephen Jones do this offseason. I like the upgrade. I think Cole Beasley going to (the) Buffalo (Bills) and Randall Cobb ending up…I think that's where Cole Beasley, I don't remember correctly, but who cares?
The point is, I think Cole Beasley being replaced by Randall Cobb is an upgrade. I think Jason Witten being back, as old as dirt as he may be, I'm not going to get into how slow he is. The bottom line is, the man is always open, it seems. You got Amari Cooper.
Signing DeMarcus Lawrence, look, the man got more sacks than anybody at the defensive end spot over the last two years, I think, with 25, for crying out loud. The quarterback pressures, everything he brings to the table.
The fact that they were smart to get this done, I'm getting a little bit concerned. Am I worried about them winning the Super Bowl? No. I think they will find a way to mess it up.

Smith's latest statements about the Cowboys are interesting, to say the least. In the last few years, he hasn't praised Dallas that much on national television. It seems there's a bit of a paradigm shift.
The Cowboys finished with a 10-6 (.625) win-loss record in 2018. They made the postseason for just the third time in the last nine seasons. Dallas lost to the Los Angeles Rams in the divisional round, 30-22.
Will Smith's prediction about the Cowboys come true? It will be interesting to find out.
