The Dallas Cowboys have not been shy about expressing their high expectations for the 2018 NFL season. They are hoping that quarterback Dak Prescott is at the forefront of their resurgence.

There is no question Prescott is coming off a rough 2017 campaign. However, according to Mike Leslie of WFAA, former Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo feels he is poised for a bounce-back season:

“I think he's gonna do good… for him it's just the ability to get better throwing the football, like all young quarterbacks.”

Prescott burst onto the scene as an overlooked prospect in the 2016 NFL Draft. He quickly established himself as one of the most promising, young signal-callers in the league after replacing an injured Romo to lead the Cowboys to a 13-3 finish. Unfortunately, he was unable to follow up his stellar rookie campaign, instead enduring the dreaded sophomore slump.

It goes without saying that Romo knows a thing or two about having to deal with these kinds of struggles. It is not uncommon for talented players to hit a wall during their development. The former Cowboys star is confident that Prescott will continue to progress with time.

Of course, there may be some bias in Romo's belief. Aside from wide receiver Dez Bryant, former Cowboys players have always been extremely optimistic about the state of the franchise. Furthermore, Romo's legacy would take a severe hit if the player that forced him into early retirement wound up floundering in the NFL.

Regardless, the 2018 campaign could be a deciding year for Prescott.
