Dallas Cowboys legend Troy Aikman is obviously still very much invested with the franchise he spent his entire 12-year NFL career with. In an exclusive interview with Sports Illustrated, the three-time Super Bowl champ made a subtle plea to his Cowboys to give current franchise Dak Prescott a long-term deal.

“I would sleep real good if I had Dak Prescott locked up with a big contract,” Aikman told us in an exclusive visit, “and not be worrying about his commitment to the team and commitment to winning.”

If it isn't very obvious, Aikman is a firm believer in Prescott. And it doesn't seem like the former fourth-round pick's gruesome injury earlier this year is enough to change his stance on his quarterback heir as a legitimate star in this league.

Prescott and the Cowboys have not yet come to terms on an extension. The two-time Pro-Bowler signed a $31.4 million franchise tag with Dallas after both sides failed to agree on a long-term deal.

Nonetheless, negotiations between Prescott and the Cowboys should resume this off-season. If these subtle attempts aren't enough, Aikman should look to give the 27-year old a little nudge if it means keeping the star QB for the long haul.

The Cowboys' season took a massive blow after Prescott suffered a compound fracture and dislocation of his right ankle in Week 5. Nonetheless, Dallas has found a way to keep its playoff hopes alive. Andy Dalton has done a good job as a replacement. Nonetheless, Prescott is still Aikman's choice to get the Cowboys back to its glory days.
