The Washington Redskins were reportedly thwarted. The Dallas Cowboys managed to keep wide receiver Amari Cooper from exploring free agency with a lucrative five-year, $100 million deal. It appears they faced some stiff competition from one of their own rivals in the NFC East.
According to ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter, the Washington Redskins had attempted to sign Amari Cooper away from Dallas:

Washington's efforts to sign Amari Cooper were certainly understandable. They have ushered in some significant changes this offseason and he would have provided a major spark for a potential resurgence in the 2020 NFL season. However, it appears they ultimately fell short as Dallas pulled the trigger on the blockbuster deal.
The Cowboys were effectively able to kill two birds with one stone by preventing a division rival from signing Amari Cooper. Washington is now left with another notable void to fill this offseason after parting ways with wide receiver Paul Richardson. Regardless, their efforts are indicative of their willingness to make a splash this offseason.
Dallas made quite the investment in order to secure Amari Cooper as the No. 1 option ion there passing game for the long haul. They initially parted ways with a first-round pick to acquire him from the Oakland Raiders during the 2018 campaign and it did not take him long to make an immediate impact as his arrival ultimately paid huge dividends for quarterback Dak Prescott.

Now that the deal for Amari Cooper is out of the way, the Cowboys can now shift their focus to their ongoing negotiations with Prescott. They recently bought themselves some extra time by placing their franchise tag on him in order to keep him from entering free agency.
