The Denver Broncos managed to bring in some serious stability under center with the addition of former Minnesota Vikings quarterback Case Keenum. However, it appears Keenum was more excited about the signing than anyone.

After all, it is not every day that a Hall of Fame quarterback wants to hand the reigns of his team over to a veteran player like himself. He said during an appearance on SiriusXM NFL Radio that he was honored general manager John Elway wanted to sign him:

“When my phone rang and it was John Elway telling me to come sign with the Broncos, it feels pretty good, especially as a kid growing up an Elway fan,” Keenum said. “We actually talked first when I got to Denver. It was great. Walking into his office there and it’s John Elway behind the desk. It’s Big John. He’s definitely a presence, obviously one of the greats that ever played the game. There’s a lot of tradition and history there, and a lot of it is because of him. It’s a cool atmosphere, a cool organization, and I’m just happy to be a part of it.”

Starting the next chapter of his career with a talented Broncos' team gives good reason to be happy. However, gaining the trust of a football icon like Elway makes it even better.

It goes without saying that Keenum may not have been their first choice this offseason. Denver had been reportedly actively involved in the Kirk Cousins Sweepstakes. However, Elway was adamant upon Keenum's signing that he was their guy.

Regardless of where he was on their wish list, this was a solid pickup for Denver. Despite their tumultuous 2017 campaign, this roster still boasts enough talent to get back into playoff contention. Where they go from there will largely be dictated by how well Keenum plays this season. However, the veteran has made it clear that he hopes to make it to the Super Bowl after falling just short last year.
