The Denver Broncos are reportedly trying to find a way to possibly bring in Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh as their new coach.
Denver cut ties with former head coach Vance Joseph on Monday after two seasons, as he was unable to help the franchise turn the corner. Joseph went just 11-21 overall as coach of the Broncos, and it seemed clear that his job was in jeopardy after the team lost four straight games to finish 6-10 on the season.
The Broncos must now find his replacement, and it sounds like general manager John Elway is focusing his attention on trying to lure Harbaugh to Denver, via Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk.
The chatter in league circles regarding Denver’s future continues to be that G.M. John Elway would like to find a way to hire Ravens coach John Harbaugh or, failing that, a path to returning Mike Shanahan to the franchise.
This would obviously be a huge move for the Broncos, but at this point, there's no way of knowing if it would actually happen.
With the Ravens clinching a playoff berth following their win over the Cleveland Browns on Sunday, Elway wouldn't be able to move forward with that idea until Baltimore is eliminated from the postseason.
Of course, it's also worth pointing out that Florio did mention former Denver coach Mike Shanahan in the discussion, which would make sense considering his ties to both Elway and the Broncos.
Either way, it's clear that the team's front office is aiming high when it comes to finding a new head coach.
