The Denver Broncos are currently 3-6 and on the outside looking in when it comes to the AFC playoff picture. With quarterback Joe Flacco on injured reserve, the team has turned to Brandon Allen, but could be getting a rookie passer back on the practice field.

According to 9News’ Mike Klis, rookie quarterback Drew Lock is ready to practice, and will return to the Broncos' practice field on Tuesday. Lock has been hampered by a thumb injury suffered in the preseason, but is now ready to return. With Lock returning tomorrow, the Broncos would have 21 days to activate him.

While it’s unlikely that Lock would be thrust into the starting role of the Broncos considering how poorly their season has gone, it’s encouraging to see Lock be able to practice this season. Should he return to practice tomorrow, Lock would have to be activated on the 53-man roster by the Broncos' Week 14 matchup against the Houston Texans.

At the moment, the Broncos only have two quarterbacks on their active roster, with Brandon Allen and Brett Rypien taking up spots. Allen looks to be the starter going forward, especially after helping lead the team to a surprising victory last week.

As Lock prepares to step onto the practice field, he’ll get some much-needed reps in as he continues to develop into the type of quarterback that Denver hoped he could be when he was drafted. While their season may be getting closer to over, the Broncos are still close enough to a playoff spot that some wins towards the end of the season could catapult them into a late playoff push.
