In the weeks ahead of the 2018 NFL Draft, much of the chatter has surrounded the top-tier group of quarterbacks in this year's class. This has primarily featured the team sitting at the top four picks in the first round being in the position to take one of these promising talents under center.

However, the Denver Broncos have been presumably left out of the conversation after inking Case Keenum to a two-year, $36 million deal at the start of the free agency period last week. According to Mike Klis of 9News, general manager John Elway has left the door open to the possibility of snagging a quarterback at the fifth overall pick.

Denver has shown their commitment to Keenum being the answer for the next couple of seasons, but the fact that they may have interest in bringing aboard a rookie quarterback shouldn't come as much of a surprise. The front office had decided to only sign him to a two-year deal, which gives off the notion that he may not be their long-term answer under center.

At the same time, the Broncos could find themselves on the clock with one of the top projected quarterbacks on the board with either Josh Rosen, Baker Mayfield, Josh Allen, or even Sam Darnold still available. The opportunity to add one of these players to the mix would be too difficult to pass up even though Keenum is slated to be the clear-cut starter for the 2018 season.

On top of that, Denver has struggled to find a viable solution at the position since Peyton Manning retired, which only heightens the internal push to find a long-term answer that could take the team back to the mountaintop as a Super Bowl contender. This could also be used as a ploy to get other teams who are interested in acquiring a quarterback in the draft to present them with a lucrative trade offer for their selection.

Nonetheless, there is still plenty of time until the draft for the Bronco to get a better assessment of each of these quarterbacks in case any of them is still on the board at their top pick.
