It's more accurate to call Joe Flacco the Denver Broncos' quarterback of the present rather than quarterback of the future.

At 34, Flacco is clearly on the downside of his career, years removed from a playing peak that wasn't all that high to begin with. It's not like Denver paid a heavy price in February to acquire him from the Baltimore Ravens, either, surrendering just a fourth-round pick in the upcoming draft. The Broncos, basically, should be ready to move on from Flacco whenever his play deems doing so prudent.

Just because there's not much long-term stability under center in Denver, though, doesn't mean John Elway will go out of his way to acquire a talented young signal-caller in whom he doesn't believe. Case in point: The Broncos have no interest in trading for Josh Rosen, according to Pro Football Talk's Michael David Smith.

“NFL Network reported today that the Broncos are not interested in trading for Rosen. Broncos General Manager John Elway passed on Rosen in last year’s draft and apparently hasn’t changed his view that Rosen is not the man to be the Broncos’ quarterback of the future.

“Instead, Elway is going with Flacco this year, and the possibility of drafting a quarterback either with the 10th overall pick in two weeks, or drafting a quarterback in 2020.”

There have been multiple reports in the last few weeks that Arizona has made Rosen, the No. 10 overall pick last year, available ahead of the draft on April 25th. The team is expected to take Oklahoma quarterback Kyler Murray with the first overall pick.

Rosen, playing behind one of the league's leakiest offensive lines, threw for 2,278 yards, 11 touchdowns, and 14 interceptions while completing just 55.2 percent of his passes as a rookie.
