The Philadelphia Eagles were dealt what was thought to be a crushing blow with MVP candidate Carson Wentz went down with a season-ending knee injury last season. Fortunately, veteran Nick Foles was able to shoulder the load while their star quarterback was on the mend by leading the team to a Super Bowl title, and now the North Dakota State product has a goal in mind for the 2018 campaign.

At this point, Wentz is on pace to be the starter under center for Week 1 next season with his recovery going well. Once he makes his return, his goal is to not be watching from the sidelines for the rest of the season, via ESPN.

“My goal is to not miss a game,” Wentz said in a recent sit-down with ESPN's Sal Paolantonio. “I feel I missed plenty last year. I want to be out there with the guys. It's a fluid process. We'll see what happens, but I'm confident I'll be back Week 1 and ready to play against Atlanta.”

The Eagles are hoping Wentz can get healthy and back to form in order to lead this team during their Super Bowl title defense as they are no doubt a much better football team with him under center. Philadelphia is expected to be a title contender once again next season and a motivated Wenz can only improve their chances.

Before going down with the season-ending knee injury last year, Wentz had led his team to an 11-2 record while putting up some incredible numbers for a second-year player. He had thrown for 3,296 yards, 33 touchdowns, and only seven interceptions.

If Wentz had finished out the regular season without getting hurt, there's a good chance he would've been named NFL MVP over Tom Brady of the New England Patriots. The up-and-coming quarterback will look to get back to where he left off with a tough task right out of the gate against Matt Ryan's Atlanta Falcons in Week 1 come September.
