The Philadelphia Eagles have finally reached the NFL mountaintop. Well, they've finally reached that mountaintop during the Super Bowl era. It's funny how so many fans forget about the pre-Super Bowl era. In any event, the Eagles did fly in early February as they stunned the world by knocking off Tom Brady and the New England Patriots to capture Super Bowl 52.

It happened under Doug Pederson, two coaches removed from one of the greats in franchise history, Andy Reid, and, perhaps, the most controversial sideline boss in organizational history, Chip Kelly. On Friday, the latter offered up thoughts about the team's recent amazing accomplishment, according to Les Bowen of The Inquirer.

“I had been removed for a couple of years before they played. It wasn’t weird,” Kelly said over the phone, when asked if it felt odd, watching the Eagles, many of whom he coached, win the Super Bowl. “It was a hell of a  football game.

”Kelly mentioned a host of coaches and players. “They played their asses off,” he said. “I’m really happy for them.”

Bowen and Kelly even had a chance to get into the nitty-gritty as it pertained to some of the strategies during the big game.

“No, I wasn’t, because he’s an aggressive play-caller. I watched him all year, I watched him when he was with us. I was proud of him for just knocking that one out,” Reid said. “I think the quarterback went over and said, ‘Let’s run it right here.’ They were on the same page, which makes it even more impressive.”

“It was a hell of a call at a hell of a time,” Kelly said.

Even Reid, current head coach of the Kansas City Chiefs and one of the greats in Eagles history, had much to say while on the job in Indianapolis for the NFL Scouting Combine.

“Had a chance to sit there and watch it, enjoy every minute of it. Very, very proud of Doug,” Reid said at the NFL scouting combine. “Very happy for the city of Philadelphia. They’ve waited a long time for that. I think it’s great for the Lurie family and the organization, all around.”

Kelly, 54, of course, spent three seasons as the Eagles head coach (2013-2015). During the meat of the tenure, he actually took over full control of all personnel decisions from general manager Howie Roseman. After a failed season in San Francisco with the 49ers, he's now the head coach at UCLA, back in the college ranks, a place many argue where he belongs.

In 2018, the Philadelphia Eagles will defend that Vince Lombardi Trophy both Andy Reid and Chip Kelly speak so highly of at this moment.
