The Green Bay Packers are set to take on the Philadelphia Eagles on Thursday Night Football in one of this week's biggest matchups. Both teams came into the 2019 season as potential contenders in the NFC. While they were considered challengers, many placed the Eagles ahead of the Packers in the rankings.
Surprisingly, the Packers are coming into this game with a 3-0 record, while the Eagles are just 1-2.
Aaron Rodgers and the Packers have been impressive this season. Granted, the offense has had major consistency issues, but their defense has been rock solid for the first time in a long time. They will have the toughest test of their season so far against Carson Wentz and an Eagles' offense capable of making big plays.
Offensively, the Packers must find a way to get things going consistently. Matt LaFleur is in his first year as an NFL head coach and his offense has shown flashes of dominance, but they also have had times where they couldn't move the ball for extended periods of time.
All of that being said, let's dive in and take a look at three keys that the Packers need to focus on in order to come away with a big win over the Eagles.
3. Put Pressure on Carson Wentz
Green Bay has had one of the league's most dangerous pass rushes so far this season and that must continue against the Eagles. Wentz is a very talented quarterback and has played at an MVP level when he has been healthy. After facing Mitchell Trubisky and Kirk Cousins, the Packers are getting their first real look at a star quarterback.
Za'Darius Smith may not end up playing, but if he does that will help in a big way. Even without him, the Packers have Preston Smith, Rashan Gary, and Kyler Fackrell who are more than capable of getting to the quarterback.
2. Aaron Rodgers Must Find A Way To Get Going
So far this season, Aaron Rodgers has not thrown for more than 235 yards. That is a bit of a surprise in and of itself. He is normally considered an MVP candidate every year, but over the last couple of seasons that has not been the case.
Green Bay needs their superstar quarterback to get going this week. The Eagles have a banged up secondary that has been unable to stop the pass this year. Rodgers is being given a great opportunity to get his season back on track this week.
1. Green Bay Must Force A Couple of Turnovers
Finally, the Packers are going to need their defense to force a turnover or two. Mike Pettine's defense has shown plenty of playmaking potential this season and they need that to continue.
Green Bay has a strong pass rush and a secondary that can capitalize on mistakes. They also could make something happen by forcing fumbles on Wentz and rookie running back Miles Sanders. If the Packers can do these three things, they will have a very good chance to keep their perfect record.
