Former Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy is getting interest for head-coaching jobs around the league, but it is uncertain if he will return in 2019, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.
The New York Jets were recently one of the teams who were rumored to be interested in McCarthy, who was fired by the Packers earlier this month after a loss to the lowly Arizona Cardinals.
McCarthy spent 13 years with Green Bay, leading the team to nine playoff appearances, including a Super Bowl title during the 2010-11 campaign. The Packers also won six division titles under McCarthy.
Overall, McCarthy posted a record of 125-77-2 as Packers head coach.
This year, though, Green Bay has been a massive disappointment.
The Packers went just 4-7-1 under McCarthy and came into Sunday's action with a record of 5-8-1 on the season overall. This marks the first time since 2006 that Green Bay has missed the playoffs in back-to-back years. Last season, the Packers won just seven games and missed the postseason, largely due to the fact that quarterback Aaron Rodgers missed most of the year with a broken collarbone.
McCarthy's souring relationship with Rodgers also seemed to be part of the reason why he was fired, as the two did not see eye-to-eye in Green Bay's locker room.
In spite of this season, McCarthy has a very solid track record and will almost certainly coach somewhere in the NFL again as long as he wants to.
The Packers are taking on the Jets on Sunday. They will conclude their regular season at home against the Detroit Lions next week.
