Many have accepted that their television screens will not bring them the much-anticipated Packers' Aaron Rodgers vs. Chiefs' Patrick Mahomes matchup on Sunday, as Mahomes is dealing with the recovery of a dislocated patella.
However, Rodgers is not one of those people, as he is not counting out that Mahomes' to face Green Bay on Sunday.
Said Rodgers on Wednesday, via Matt Schneidman of The Athletic:
“I would never count Pat out from playing this week. I really enjoyed working with him this summer. He’s a great actor.”
Rodgers isn't likely referring to Mahomes' acting from injury. The two combined forces over the summer to create a series of commercials for Statefarm.
Mahomes has a three-week timetable to return from the dislocated patella, which he suffered in last Thursday's win over the Denver Broncos. However, he is already on track to beat it. On Wednesday, he practiced with the Chiefs in a limited fashion.
Does that mean a Rodgers vs. Mahomes matchup is in-store for Sunday?
Possibly. But, the likeliest outcome is no. The Chiefs do not want to risk further injury to their franchise quarterback and 2018 NFL MVP. That has shown in practice as backup Matt Moore practiced with the starters on Wednesday and is expected to continue doing so.
In all likelihood, Rodgers vs. Moore should happen on Sunday. While the Chiefs could be without their starter, they will be at home and Moore has shown an ability to run the offense. Unless?
