Despite all the changes that were made this offseason, all signs point to Green Bay Packers running back Aaron Jones enjoying a breakout year in the 2019 NFL season. It seems he is doing what he can to ensure he is as healthy as possible moving forward.
The offseason is a time for many players to rectify their areas of weakness. According to ESPN's Rob Demovsky, Jones was much more disciplined with his diet and is now feeling much leaner this time of year.
Jones said he’s cut his body fat in half while maintaining the same weight by cleaning up his diet. Jones was “big into candy,” but stopped eating it and now feels “stronger in the legs” than he did in his first two seasons.
This is certainly an interesting development for Jones. He has long been on the cusp of emerging as the team's workhorse in the backfield, however, it appears he may have been somewhat held back by his playing shape. He is hoping the loss in body fat will help become more explosive than ever.
Jones knows full well he will have an opportunity to etch out a central role in the Packers offense. Green Bay has long relied on the arm of quarterback Aaron Rodgers to do the majority of their bidding. Head coach Matt LaFleur indicates that the offense will try to use a much more balanced approach to help take the pressure off Rodgers. As a result, the stars have seemingly aligned for Jones to enjoy a big year.
