The Green Bay Packers have reportedly requested permission to talk with Pittsburgh Steelers offensive line coach Mike Munchak about their head coaching vacancy.

Green Bay finished 6-9-1 overall this season after suffering a 31-0 home defeat at the hands of the Detroit Lions on Sunday.

That disappointing performance capped off what's been a wild year for the franchise, with Green Bay firing former head coach Mike McCarthy following the loss to the Arizona Cardinals in early December.

Now, the Packers will turn their focus to finding McCarthy's permanent replacement in what will be one of the most crucial hires in the franchise's history.

Apparently, one coach on Green Bay's current list of candidates is Munchak, according to ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter.

Munchak has served as the Steelers' offensive line coach since 2014 and has many years of NFL experience in that role.

Of course, his only head coaching experience came with the Tennessee Titans, where he went 22-26 in three seasons before being fired after a 7-9 campaign in 2013.

Munchak is also reportedly set to interview for the vacant head coaching spot with the Denver Broncos after the team let Vance Joseph go following a 6-10 season.

We've officially reached the interview phase of the NFL coaching carousel, so while Green Bay fans may not be thrilled with Munchak a potential replacement, he will be one of many coaches that get a look.

The Packers have also expressed interest in interviewing coaches such as New England Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels and New Orleans Saints tight ends coach Dan Campbell.
