Drew Lock ended up being drafted in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft by the Denver Broncos, but there was another team that was interested in taking him. That team was the Green Bay Packers, who may be looking at preparing for life after Aaron Rodgers.

According to a report from Benjamin Allbright, the Packers were “definitely” interested in taking Lock, but the Broncos traded above them to get him.

Lock would have been an intriguing pick for the Packers in the second round. Rodgers is 35 years old and isn't getting any younger. Getting a young quarterback to sit behind and learn from Rodgers would have been a very bold move, to say the least.

At this point in time, the Packers currently have third-year quarterback DeShone Kizer as their No. 2 quarterback. He has not shown the kind of development that Green Bay would like. That led to general manager Brian Gutekunst doing his homework on the crop of quarterbacks in this years draft class.

It will be interesting to see what the Packers do in the draft over the next couple of years. If they were looking at taking a quarterback this year, that desire will increase as time passes.

Expect to see Green Bay continue doing their due diligence on quarterbacks over the next few years. They may not end up taking one, but this report certainly makes things interesting.

Rodgers is widely expected to play for another five years at least, so not getting Lock this year won't be too much of a disappointment for the Packers.
