There was a time when Jimmy Graham was one of the best tight ends in the NFL. Now, Graham might end up getting cut by the Green Bay Packers one year after signing a multi-year contract with the club. Well, at least according to Green Bay Press-Gazette columnist Pete Dougherty

While Dougherty seems to be speculating more than anything else, what he says makes sense.

He cites that Graham will be making $9 million in salary and bonuses next season, which certainly seems like quite a bit for a 32-year-old tight end who is unquestionably several years past his prime.

It's not that Graham was bad in 2018. After all, he hauled in 55 receptions for 636 yards and two touchdowns. But he is a far cry from the threat he once was in the passing game, and for a Packers team that needs work in other areas, $9 million is a lot to pay for Graham.

Should Green Bay decide to cut Graham, it would save $5.3 million on the cap.

The Packers originally signed Graham to a three-year, $30 million deal last offseason.

Prior to arriving in Wisconsin, the Goldsboro, N.C. native was coming off back-to-back Pro Bowl appearances with the Seattle Seahawks, but even in those two years, Graham was not even close to the player he was during his days with the New Orleans Saints.

Back in 2013, for example, Graham caught 86 passes for 1,215 yards and a league-leading 16 touchdowns en route to a Pro Bowl selection and First-Team All-Pro honors.

Graham spent five years with the Saints before being traded to the Seahawks in March 2015.
