Every year, NFL pundits say the Green Bay Packers must address the wide receiver position, whether in free agency or the NFL Draft. With two first-round picks in the upcoming draft, now might seem like the perfect time, but the Packers taking a receiver early is no sure thing.

According to ESPN’s Rob Demovsky, the growing sense among NFL Draft decision-makers for the Packers is that receiver isn’t even a top-four need.

Despite losing Randall Cobb and Jordy Nelson in consecutive years, the Packers still have a spectacular talent in Davante Adams, and they do have plenty of players who could rise, including Geronimo Allison and 2018 draft picks J’Mon Moore, Marquez Valdes-Scantling, and Equanimeous St. Brown.

Still, many seem to think that the Pack would be best served by equipping Aaron Rodgers with more talented weapons. While that might be true, the team does need help elsewhere. Pass rushing, the safety position, and extra depth on the offensive line are some of the many needs for the Packers. While some might be able to argue that a wide receiver is more important in some ways, the Packers have most often been let down by their defense when Aaron Rodgers is fully healthy. Their defense has hurt them more than any inadequacies at wide receiver.

While Green Bay might not take a wide receiver in the first round, that doesn’t mean it won’t take one at all. The 2019 class of receivers is deep, so the Packers may be able to take a player in on Day 2 or Day 3. Either way, the Packers seem to be holding their cards close to the vest. We won’t have to wait very long to find out whom they will take.
