Houston Texans had much to improve on following a disappointing end to the 2018 NFL season. Fortunately, head coach Bill O'Brien is pleased with quarterback Deshaun Watson's improvement this offseason.

Despite their struggles, the Texans still have high expectations going into the 2019 NFL season. According to ESPN's Sarah Barshop, O'Brien is impressed with how much Watson has progressed thus far.

At the end of the Texans' spring workouts, Bill O'Brien said he felt quarterback Deshaun Watson did “an excellent job of improving the things that we've asked him to improve” during the offseason. “His grasp of our offense is light years ahead of where it was, obviously, when he first got here, but I would say even last year,” O'Brien said. “I think we've really gotten better there and I'm excited about where he's at right now.

The update on Watson should hardly come as any surprise. He had established himself as one of the most promising young quarterbacks in the league during his stellar rookie year. It is clear that the 23-year-old is looking to take his game to the next level following a modest 2018 campaign.

Although Houston has shored up some serious firepower in recent years, their offense grew a bit stagnant at times last season. As a result, Watson's numbers were a bit underwhelming after he threw for 4,168 yards, 26 touchdowns, and nine interceptions. However, his struggles could be attributed to the lackluster protection up front, as well as the injuries to key players in the receiving corps.

Regardless, there is no question that O'Brien is expecting big things from Watson in 2019. His skill set as a dual-threat quarterback makes him one of the most dangerous weapons in the NFL. The onus will be on O'Brien to make sure he is maximizing Watson's potential.
