The Houston Texans came away with a pivotal 27-24 victory over the Oakland Raiders on Sunday, thanks much in part to a terrific performance from quarterback Deshaun Watson.

A compromised Deshaun Watson.

Watson threw what would prove to be the game-winning touchdown pass to tight end Darren Fells with six minutes left, but he did so without even being able to see.

The third-year signal-caller took a cleat to the eye during the play, and the vision of his other eye was obstructed by his helmet:

“I had to readjust my helmet, and then this eye was actually going closed, too, so I kind of threw it blind,” Watson said, according to Sarah Barshop of ESPN.com. “But I kind of assumed where he was going and kind of adjusted and let my arm guide it. And then I didn't even see the play until after the game. I just kind of just laid there and heard the crowd go crazy and knew we scored.”

Watson completed 27 of his 37 passes for 279 yards and three touchdowns in what was his best outing in three weeks, and after the game, Watson fortunately said that his eye was “fine.”

On the season overall, Watson has thrown for 2,231 yards, 16 touchdowns and five interceptions while completing 69.3 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 105.7. He has also rushed for 242 yards and five scores.

The Texans improved to 5-3 with the win and are one loss behind the Indianapolis Colts for first place in the AFC South. They will take on the Jacksonville Jaguars in London next weekend.
