The Deshaun Watson trade saga has been one of the wildest roller coasters of the past year. But it looks like the Houston Texans are avoiding any loops for now.
According to NFL insider Ian Rapoport, the Texans are holding on to Watson for the time being.
“The Texans are not expected to trade QB Deshaun Watson before today’s 4 pm cut down day deadline, sources tell me and Tom Pelissero. Barring a dramatic turn, Houston is now positioned to keep him into the regular season — at least.”
Things have come a long way from the Texans star's trade request back in January. Deshaun Watson seemed to have all the leverage given that his contract has a no-trade clause. But with the highly publicized accusations against him from several women, everything got turned upside-down in a hurry.
The Texans are still seeking a hefty trade return for their star QB. Given the Top 5 talent Deshaun Watson possesses, teams were previously lining up for his services. But being able to recoup that same value with all the question marks surrounding him, everything has just gotten way too complicated.
Houston is reportedly going to bite the bullet and pay the $10.5 million it would cost to keep him on the roster for the season. The plan is to leave him on the inactive list as they seek a potential deal.
Texans are prepared to have Deshaun Watson on the 53-man roster and inactive every week, according to multiple league sources. Watson, who has issued a standing trade request with no deal imminent, would be paid his $10.54 million salary

Deshaun Watson and the Texans have been facing an entirely new reality with no clear end in sight.
