The Houston Texans made a splash with the acquisition of wide receiver Demaryius Thomas at the trade deadline. However, it appears they also looked into New England Patriots wide receiver Phillip Dorsett.

Houston is adamant about fortifying its receiving corps for the second half of the 218 NFL season. According to Jeff Howe of The Athletic, they inquired about potentially trading for Dorsett:

The Texans have called about Phillip Dorsett but it doesn’t sound like there’s been much progress on the trade front to this point, per source.

Zack Cox of NESN doubled down on the Texans' attempts to bring Dorsett in.

Even after adding Demaryius Thomas, the Texans still are considering trading for Phillip Dorsett. Dorsett has hardly played since Josh Gordon became a starter for the Patriots three weeks ago.

A deal would certainly have made sense for both sides. The Texans are clearly trying to provide quarterback Deshaun Watson with as many weapons as possible moving forward. Their move to acquire Thomas came in response to wide receiver Will Fuller's season-ending designation after suffering a torn ACL.

Meanwhile, their next man up in wide receiver Keke Coutee has been nursing a lingering hamstring issue. Houston is looking for any kind of depth to serve opposite of star wideout DeAndre Hopkins at this point.

Meanwhile, New England has not had much use for Dorsett ever since they acquired wide receiver Josh Gordon. They had their fair share of problems in the receiving corps to start the season. However, it is clear that they now wield a surplus of weapons for quarterback Tom Brady. It would have made sense for them to get what they could in exchange for Dorsett, but it didn't end up happening with the trade deadline passing.
