The Indianapolis Colts had an encouraging win over the San Francisco 49ers in Week 7. They won the game 30-18, improving their record to 3-4 on the season.
While the Colts had a slow start, they have picked it up as of late and and now have a legitimate chance to make a playoff push.
The Colts had somewhat high expectations after making a deal for Carson Wentz in the offseason. With a win over the 49ers, they are hitting a groove and could gain momentum moving forward. With that said, here are three takeaways from their crucial Week 7 win over the 49ers.
Indianapolis Colts Week 7 Takeaways
3. Colts' defense is underrated
The Colts' defense has been underrated throughout the year, even though they often hold opponents to low scoring. They have talented players on defense, as well as a great scheme. They have certainly done a great job of creating turnovers, giving their offense more opportunities.
Against the 49ers, the Colts forced four turnovers, including two interceptions and two fumble recoveries. This was a big reason why they were able to beat San Francisco on the road. Their defense is the key for them to make a postseason run, which separates them from some other elite teams.
Look for the Colts defense to continue to play at a high level and help them make a playoff push.
2. Jonathan Taylor is a star

Jonathan Taylor had a great rookie campaign, and now, he just recorded back-to-back phenomenal games. Taylor is emerging as a star as he takes the Colts offense reach a new level.
Against the 49ers, Taylor rushed for 107 yards and a touchdown on 18 carries.
Taylor is the key to Indianapolis' offensive success since the run game opens up the passing game for Wentz. At the current state of Wentz's career, he needs a strong running game to allow him to not turn the ball over.
Expect Taylor to remain a staple of the offense for years to come.
1. Colts can make the Wild Card
After the first few weeks of the season, the Colts were at 0-3 and did not look like anywhere near the 11-5 team from the season prior. They have a good defense and excellent run game, making them a potential threat in the AFC.
While the AFC is loaded with great teams, the Colts could sneak into the Wild Card round.
The Colts are slept on as they have a team that is built for playoff football. Defense and having a running game matters a lot in the postseason since the style of play changes. The NFL expanded the playoffs from six to seven teams last season, which gives the Colts another spot to make it. Of course Wentz's play will be vital for their playoff chances.
Against the 49ers, Wentz threw for 15o yards along with two touchdowns and zero interception. Wentz did turn the ball over with a fumble, and he really needs to limit his turnovers. Winning the turnover battle is an integral part of winning games in a playoff-type atmosphere.

The Colts now move on to their Week 8 opponent in the Tennessee Titans, who are coming off a dominant victory over the Kansas City Chiefs to improve to 5-2. This will be a big game for both teams, as divisional games can mean a ton when it comes to seeding.
Indianapolis will have an uphill battle to make the postseason, but they have the talent to get it done.
