Adam Vinatieri may be a kicker, but there are very few members of the Indianapolis Colts who mean more to the team and city than he does. As the Colts prepare to face off against the New England Patriots on Thursday night, Vinatieri's competitive side is coming out. He knows this could be the last time that he plays the Patriots and he would like to get a win against his old team.
In an interview with the Associated Press, Vinatieri talked about the game and how it may mean a bit more to him this year than most.
“I suppose any person who’s played somewhere for a certain amount of time and then has the opportunity to go back and just reminisce a little bit, maybe it holds a different feeling than some of the other places. But I’m thinking more about how can we get a win and right the ship and get back where we need to be.”
Last week, Vinatieri made history and took over sole possession of the most field goals made in his career. He passed Morten Andersen for that record.
Vinatieri has had a lot of success throughout his career with the Patriots and Colts. His time in New England saw him become a star and help win some very big games. Coming to Indianapolis was a major change, but he has taken his game to an even higher level.
Article Continues BelowMatt Slauson, the Colts' second-oldest player at 32 years old, chipped in with his thoughts on Vinatieri and the career he has put together.
“I’m the second oldest guy in the locker room and my first year of playing football was his second year in the league. So he’s not only had one incredible career, he’s essentially had two incredible careers with two different teams. It’s amazing.”
Indianapolis is not being given much of a chance to head into Foxborough and pick up a win. New England is favored, but Vinatieri and company are hoping to shock the world.
Perhaps playing a bit extra for Vinatieri will help give the Colts the edge they need to compete with the Patriots.
