Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck has been dealing with a pesky calf injury in training camp, but Luck is confident that he will be good to go once the regular season begins next month, even if he is a bit worried.
“I certainly believe I will [be ready],” Luck told Peter King of NBC Sports. “That’s certainly the goal. … At times I do worry about it. It can be frustrating. The arc of an injury, whether it’s a big surgical one or something you’re rehabbing through. But no, because I’ve improved. Maybe I’m not improving as fast as I want and missing things is no fun. It eats at you. But I do know at the end of the day if I’m getting the most out of myself, if I’m being the best I can that day, then that’s what I need to do.”
Luck actually initially suffered the injury back in April and has had three MRIs since then, but the issue has always been ruled a strain.
If this sounds like deja vu, it's because it kind of is. Remember: two years ago, Luck was coming off shoulder surgery, and the expectation was that Luck would be ready to return sometime early in the season, but he had multiple setbacks and ended up not playing at all in 2017.
Of course, this issue is certainly a bit less severe, but that doesn't mean it isn't concerning.
Luck is coming off of a 2018 campaign in which he played all 16 games for the first time since 2014, throwing for 4,593 yards, 39 touchdowns, and 15 interceptions while completing 67.3 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 98.7 en route to a Pro Bowl appearance.
