The Indianapolis Colts will have to continue to be cautious with Andrew Luck this offseason. The Colts quarterback has missed the first couple of weeks of offseason activities so far.
Luck has missed the first couple of weeks of the Colts offseason activities due to a calf strain. Frank Reich—head coach of the Colts—said that the team will be cautious with their franchise quarterback.
According to reports, Luck will be reevaluated next week when Indianapolis begins their mandatory minicamps. With Luck's history of injuries, it would be wise for the Colts to play it safe with their signal caller.
Last season, Luck returned from a shoulder injury that held him out of the whole 2017 season. The Colts quarterback played very well and won the NFL's Comeback Player of the Year Award. Luck would throw for 4,593 yards, 39 touchdowns, and 15 interceptions.
The Colts would reach the AFC Divisional Round in the playoffs after defeating the Houston Texans. Then, Luck and company would fall to the Kansas City Chiefs—effectively ending their season.
Nonetheless, the 2018 season could be looked as a huge step forward for Luck and the Colts organization moving forward. After all, Luck didn't play at all a year before leading Indianapolis into the playoffs.
In 2019, the Colts are hoping for a repeat of 2018 in the sense of how well they protected Luck. The Colts offensive line allowed just 18 sacks all season—which led to Luck starting in all 16 games for the first time since 2014.
Indianapolis will need to be attentive when it comes to an injury in their franchise cornerstone in Luck.
Therefore, playing the slow game with Luck's calf strain is the smart move.
