The Indianapolis Colts got off to a slow start in the first half against the New York Giants, and it was an Andrew Luck halftime speech that fueled the big comeback. The fiery speech almost had some negative consequences, though, as it almost made the team late coming back out onto the field.
With 70 seconds left to go before the second-half kickoff, the only Colts players on the field were the kickers, holders, and long snapper. When the team finally got back out there, Indy's offense led a big comeback to win 28-27 and keep their playoff hopes alive.
According to Colts head coach Frank Reich, the passionate speech let the team know they needed to be better and to not repeat the first half. Luck also told his teammates that everything they wanted was still in front of them and the game was still there for the taking if they wanted it.
Left tackle Anthony Castonzo said the game reminded him a lot of Luck's rookie season, when the team made a few improbable comebacks:
“This felt like a 2012 game,” said left tackle Anthony Castonzo, referring to Luck’s rookie season and the NFL-record seven come-from-behind-wins he orchestrated, per The Indy Star. “Like, how did we win that?
“There’s just a feeling in this locker room and on this team,” Castonzo continues. “I can’t put my finger on it. But everybody believes in each other, and that matters so much every time we take the field.”
The Colts play the Tennessee Titans to finish up the season, and the winner of that game will be in the playoffs, while the loser will go home.
