It’s been a while, but Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck is back doing what he’s paid to do: throw footballs. After months of rehab following shoulder surgery, the Colts star has now progressed to the point where he can now throw again, new Colts head coach Frank Reich told the Indianapolis Star’s Stephen Holder.

This new development is likely what Colts owner Jim Irsay referred to when he said Luck had “turned the corner” in his rehab.

While Luck is most likely still far from 100 percent, it still represents a major development in his recovery. Luck had reportedly started throwing over a month ago, although he was apparently throwing weighted balls – not footballs – as he looked to regain more strength in his arm.

With the progress he’s shown, Luck should be present for the start of the Colts’ offseason program next month, which will be another important step for him.

As last season showed, the Colts desperately need Luck back on the field and at his best in order to be anywhere near competitive. Even with all the holes they have on their roster, a healthy Luck has the ability to make up for those flaws.

But while Luck is back to throwing footballs again, it would be wise for Colts fans to temper expectations with Luck given all the time he’s missed due to the injury. It won’t be too surprising if it turns out that he needs more time before he can get back to his Pro Bowl-caliber best.
