It has been a trying last 19 months for Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck as he has dealt with all kinds of setbacks trying to come back from his shoulder injury. He is finally set to come back this season but even he had doubts if he would ever be able to play in an NFL game again.

“There were one or two moments where I wondered if I am ever going to be able to do this again,” Luck said Tuesday via ESPN. “Certainly this (preseason opener at Seattle on Thursday) isn't what I've been working toward the whole time, but sort of in the same vein it is another step in this journey and one that is sort of about the next one right now. That's really exciting and that's fun.”

Luck dealt with cortisone shots, a trip to the Netherlands, and throwing a smaller football as he tried to get back to the NFL. It's all worth it now but suffering setback after setback couldn't be easy and the doubts were probably real for a long time.

Luck is expected to get a decent run in the first preseason game and there is a chance he could play all of the first quarter as he tries to get back into the NFL rhythm. Luck says he feels ready and he also feels more fit with every practice that goes by.

“Every day I feel a little bit better about my technique in team drills,” Luck said. “Sometimes it's pretty obvious. Sometimes it's not and I also feel better. I feel stronger, I feel more fit. I feel like my arm has more in it, and a little more in it, and a little more in it.”
