Indianapolis Colts backup quarterback Chad Kelly made a bold claim on where he stands among the league's gunslingers. Surprisingly, he seemed to have put himself on the same pedestal as that of 2019 NFL Most Valuable Player Lamar Jackson.
The fourth-string quarterback voiced his sentiments on Twitter:
Beside @Lj_era8 , I’m faster than every quarterback in the NFL, race me !

Kelly was a speedy runner during his time in Ole Miss, tallying 203 attempts for 958 yards and 16 touchdowns. However, he wasn't able to keep this up as his college career eventually became injury-riddled. In 2017, the NFL rescinded an offer made to him to participate in the NFL Scouting Combine. He went on to be drafted by the Denver Broncos with the 253rd overall pick in the seventh round of the 2017 NFL Draft.
Article Continues BelowHis off-field antics continue to haunt him as he was released by the Broncos in 2018 following his arrest on suspicion of criminal trespassing. In March 2019, he pleaded guilty on the said allegation.
Two months after, he found himself on the Colts' camp. However, he was suspended for the first two games of the 2019 season for a violation of the NFL'S personal conduct policy. He was then waived by the team on September 18. He was re-signed the day after and was promoted to the active roster on November 9.
Things may be different for the upcoming season as he will be playing behind newly-acquired veteran quarterback Philip Rivers along with back-up Jacoby Brissett. Fourth-round pick Jacob Eason serves as the third quarterback off the team's depth chart.
The next time he makes his next big claim, Kelly must first make sure that his numbers can back it up. Also, he needs to actually make the Colts.
