New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees has had quite the Hall of Fame-caliber career but at a point during 2005 there as a question if his NFL career was over. He suffered a serious shoulder injury, and there were questions if he would ever be the same.
Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck suffered a serious shoulder injury too and a lot like Brees there were questions if he could ever be the same. Those questions are still there, but he is fully healthy for training camp this year and expectations are high this year. Over the last year while he has rehabbed Brees has reached out to him and tried to be a big help in his recovery.
“I just tried to give him some insight as to what to expect with the rehab process,” Brees said Saturday via NFL.com. “Maybe help him find people that could help him through that process and get back to where he wanted to be.”
Brees also knows how grueling of a process it can be to get back into football ready shape and he wanted to help Luck with the mental aspect of getting back on the field.
“It is a long process,” Brees said. “It is a long, hard process and it is as much up here as it's just the physical nature of fighting through that rehab. Andrew's a bright guy and a tough guy. He's a guy who more wants to be available for his team and be around, so I know how devastating that was for him last year to miss a season. I know he has worked extremely hard coming back.”
Until Luck plays a preseason game, it's going to be hard to know if he is actually ready to play football but right now it appears all signs point towards the rehab being over.
