The Indianapolis Colts already made a drastic move at the quarterback position when they signed veteran signal-caller Philip Rivers earlier in the off-season. Following the 2020 NFL Draft, much of the chatter about the future has been centered around fourth-round Draft selection Jacob Eason, who slid into the team's lap.
But for as much fervor as the fan base is creating around the former Gatorade Player of the Year in the state of Washington, Colts general manager Chris Ballard is slowing down the expectations:

Right now he is competing with Chad Kelly. Let’s slow our roll a little bit in terms of tagging this guy as the next messiah walking into town. He was a fourth-round pick. We didn’t move up to the first pick of the draft.”
As Ballard mentions, Eason is likely closer to competing with Kelly for third-string duties than he is with Rivers or Jacoby Brissett for starting duties.
The quarterback room in Indianapolis could become crowded if Eason makes the team. Following his selection, many prognosticators believed that the Colts could look to move Brissett elsewhere, but it's clear that Ballard isn't that enthralled with his newest signal-caller just yet.
Indianapolis nabbed Andrew Luck immediately following Peyton Manning's departure. It's too early to tell if Eason can be to Luck what the former No. 12 was to Manning, but Colts fans can hold out hope for the time being.
