The Indianapolis Colts fell to the Kansas City Chiefs by a score of 31-13 in their AFC Divisional Round playoff matchup on Saturday, and afterward, Colts head coach Frank Reich admitted that the Chiefs simply took it to the Colts from the get-go.
“They outcoached us. They outplayed us,” said Reich, according to Kevin Bowen of 1070 The Fan. “We just had too many self-inflicted mistakes on our part. Hard to overcome.”
The Colts only scored one offensive touchdown, with the score coming in the fourth quarter. Also, legendary kicker Adam Vinatieri had an incredibly rough night, missing a 23-yard field-goal attempt at the end of the first half and botching an extra point in the fourth quarter.
Indianapolis came into this matchup against Kansas City the hotter team and as the trendy upset pick, but the Colts were never in this game even from the start, as they did not record a first down until the final drive of the first half. Meanwhile, by that point, the Chiefs had already racked up 16 first downs and had a 24-7 lead.

The Colts got off to a 1-5 start and looked dead in the water early in the season, but they proceeded to win nine of their final 10 regular-season games—including a winner-take-all game against the Tennessee Titans in Week 17—to sneak into the playoffs, becoming just the third team since the AFL/NFL merger to make the postseason following 1-5 start.
Indianapolis had missed the playoffs three years in a row before this season.
