The Indianapolis Colts took Andrew Luck with the first overall pick of the 2012 NFL Draft, but they almost selected another Pro Bowl quarterback later on.

On Sunday, Colts owner Jim Irsay said that the team was preparing to select Russell Wilson in the fourth round, but was upstaged when the Seattle Seahawks nabbed Wilson in the third round with the 64th overall selection, per Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk.

Of course, even if the Seahawks didn't take Wilson, the chances of the eventual Super Bowl champion falling to Indianapolis were probably rather slim.

The Colts owned the 97th overall pick in the fourth round, but traded up to No. 92 to take wide receiver T.Y. Hilton (which turned out pretty well for Indy).

That would have been a pretty far drop for Wilson, although I guess Indianapolis could have traded into the third round had he still been on the board.

Either way, that obviously would have been a rather sour turn of events for Wilson, as he would have had to sit on the bench as Luck's backup for quite some time.

Instead, Wilson got the chance to immediately start for Seattle in 2012 and made the Pro Bowl in his first season. Then, the following year, Wilson led the Seahawks to a Super Bowl title.

Now, Wilson is one of the best signal-callers in football, and Luck is no longer even taking snaps, as the former heir to Peyton Manning announced his sudden retirement a couple of weeks before the 2019 campaign began.

Jacoby Brissett is now the man under center for the Colts.
