The Indianapolis Colts have a number of roster needs to fill this offseason following a disappointing 2019 NFL season. Fortunately, it appears they will have plenty of resources to help spark a potential resurgence.
The Colts are currently projected to have more cap space than any other team in the league, via Jason Fitzgerald of Overthecap.com:
1 Colts- $91.8M
2 Dolphins- $91.4M
3 Bills- $81.8M
4 Bucs- $81.5M
5 Cowboys- $79.5M
6 Broncos- $62M
7 Giants- $61.9M
8 Titans- $54.5M
9 Seahawks- $57.9M
10 Raiders- $53.3M
This is certainly an encouraging sign considering Indianapolis has some glaring voids on both sides of the ball that general manager Chris Ballard will need to address. Although there are still some players set to test the waters of free agency, it seems Ballard may look gauge the market for other options.
The biggest question for the Colts will be where to start this offseason. They will have a chance to upgrade their personnel with the Nos. 13, 34 and 44 picks in the 2020 NFL Draft and their choices should provide them with a much better picture of the remaining holes they need to fill.
Among the most notable groups in need of some reinforcements is the receiving corps after failing to produce a complementary option to T.Y. Hilton in the passing game. It became evident while Hilton was dealing with injury that this offense was lacking any firepower on the outside.
Meanwhile, the Colts also must shore up their pass rush this offseason following a lackluster year in the sacks department. Although defensive end Justin Houston proved to be quite the offseason addition, there are still questions regarding whether or not to re-sign defensive end Jabaal Sheard this offseason.
