Indianapolis Colts tight end Jack Doyle has battled through some hard times for the better half of the last year, dealing with both hip and kidney injuries that wound up ending his 2018 season.

Doyle, who underwent procedures both on his hip and kidney, said he lost about 20 pounds over the offseason. However, the veteran is feeling better now that he’s gotten back to his playing weight.

A Pro Bowler in 2017, Doyle was only able to play in six games during the 2018 season. He suffered a hip subluxation in Week 2, which kept him out for five games. He then returned at the mid-way point of the regular season only to suffer a kidney injury that forced him to get an immediate procedure done, effectively ending his season.

The Colts aren't going to rush him back onto the field, and don't expect him to be a full participant until at least the time training camp rolls around. Much like his team, Doyle said he isn't putting a timetable on it.

I feel good. Happy with the progress that I am making. Just slowly coming along, but it’s going in the right direction. (A timetable?) No, I really don’t. I really am trying to take it one day at a time. Not rushing anything.’’

When Doyle returns, he’s expected to take over the TE1 role, playing on almost every down. When that will be remains to be seen, but it appears he’s making progress during the spring workouts.
