The Colts are working out free-agent safety Johnathan Cyprien today, ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter reported. The news comes as safety Clayton Geathers is on the mend from a procedure to clean out his knee.
Indy is likely sniffing around the veteran safety market in case it needs an insurance policy at the position.
Indy is plenty familiar with Cyprien's work after the box safety spent his first four seasons as a starter in Jacksonville and played 2017 with the Tennessee Titans. Cyprien missed the entire 2018 campaign due to an ACL tear last training camp. The Titans released him this offseason.
Cyprien had 57 tackles and a sack in 10 starts for the Titans in 2017.

While its been a while since the safety has been on a football field, there was a certain silver lining he kept in mind during the lengthy comeback process.
“A lot of guys get injured during the year, come back too early and don’t look the same,” Cyprien said. “One good thing is the time I got hurt. It allowed me to have until next August to be 100 percent and compete in training camp.”
With 70 starts under his belt in the AFC South, Cyprien can bring veteran insurance with starter upside as a box safety to a squad like the Colts, who have dealt with depth issues in the past.
