The Indianapolis Colts expected to go into the 2019 NFL campaign with Andrew Luck as their quarterback. Instead, they started and finished with Jacoby Brissett.

Luck's sudden retirement two weeks before the start of the season put the Colts in a tough spot, essentially leaving them no choice but to roll with Brissett under center.

It wasn't the worst thing in the world, as Brissett had started for Indianapolis when Luck was out with a shoulder injury in 2017, and Indy did like his talent.

However, after an up-and-down season, Colts general manager Chris Ballard says that the jury is still out on Brissett, leaving some to believe that the club may consider other quarterback options this offseason.

Could Jameis Winston represent one of those possibilities?

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers signal-caller is set to hit free agency, and the Buccaneers have been non-committal on whether or not they will bring him back.

A couple of weeks ago, rumors surfaced that Tampa Bay was leaning toward keeping Winston, but after the 25-year-old went on an interception spree over the final few weeks of the campaign to bring his total to a hefty 30 picks for the season, the Bucs may very well end up moving on from the former No. 1 overall pick.

Winston would certainly have some potential suitors if the Buccaneers do decide to make a change, and while he probably wouldn't be guaranteed a starting job anywhere, he would at least be able to compete for a starting role.

Brissett is under contract through the end of next year, so, at the very least, Winston would battle with Brissett in training camp and preseason.

But is it even worth it for the Colts?

Honestly, probably not.

Winston has now completed five NFL seasons, and at this point, he pretty much is what he is: a quarterback with a great arm who is wildly inconsistent and, most importantly, very turnover-prone.

Brissett, on the other hand, has only started two seasons, and they were spread apart by two years. Yes, he is a couple of years older than Winston, but we have more of a grasp on what Winston is than what Brissett is.

Remember: Brissett got off to a terrific start in 2019 and looked like a fringe MVP candidate early on before injuries befell the offense, leaving Brissett with virtually no weapons.

No; seriously. T.Y. Hilton, Devin Funchess, Parris Campbell, Eric Ebron and Marlon Mack were all sidelined with injuries at one point or another, with Funchess missing all but one game. Heck, even Brissett missed a game with an MCL sprain.

For that reason, Indianapolis owes it to Brissett to give him another chance with a healthy roster.

And if the Colts want some insurance behind Brissett in case he falters? I'm not sure a guy who just led the NFL in interceptions is the answer.

If Indy is really worried about Brissett moving forward, perhaps it should draft a quarterback rather than just potentially picking up where the Buccaneers left off.
