Anytime a potential generational player goes down due to circumstances other than poor play, it's tough for any fan to take. But hey, that's the life of a professional football player. Injuries count to the point it's literally an attribute unto itself.

Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck, 28, hasn't taken an official NFL snap since the 2016 season due to injury and things have spiraled so out of control that rumors of retirement have surfaced over the last year or so. On this day, Luck and his fans receive good news.

According to sources via Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo of NFL.com, Luck is continuing to gain strength to the point that he's actually close to throwing.

Sources say that Luck has headed out to the Los Angeles area to work with noted throwing mechanics and strength gurus Tom House and Adam Dedeaux. The duo works with several other high-profile signal callers including Tom Brady. Luck is nearing a return to throwing.

One source described Luck as “very close” to throwing, which is a huge milestone for the franchise QB. That also means Luck does not need another surgery, which is good news.

Luck went through successful shoulder surgery last January (2017) for a torn labrum and was expected back this season. Once July rolled around, the Colts knew things looked a little cloudy.

Week after week, game after game, Luck news hit the board without any real, well, luck.

He missed the entire 2017 that saw his Colts finish a porous 4-12. Former New England Patriots quarterback Jacoby Brissett led the Colts with over 3,000 yards and 13 touchdowns through the air, but he isn't No. 12.

Speaking of Patriots, offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels is rumored to be the next Colts head coach. Even while in Minnesota prepping for the Super Bowl, I'm sure he has one of his eyes glancing in the Andrew Luck injury-related news column as we speak.
